KDP Opening in Long Beach Next Week

KDB, your neighborhood Kitchen, Den and Bar is coming to The Pike in Long Beach; the eatery and watering hole is scheduled to open August 18 at 7PM. KDB is moving into the spot formerly housed by Gameworks, and it sounds as though the venue will keep some of the old Gameworks charm. Namely, KDB will have two bars, with lots of TVs for sports viewing, a bowling alley and a game room. KDB must be following failed Gameworks, as the Columbus Ohio KDB also opened in a spot vacated by Gameworks.

Are you ready for a WWE Extravaganza, right here in LA? I’m not sure if it’s possible to answer yes truthfully to that question, but whether you’re ready or not—WWE Summer Slam, Summer Slam Axxess and Monday Night Raw are the way.

If all that sounds hardcore, well, it probably is. Here are the details:

WWE Summer Slam Axxess: On August 14 and 15, 2010, head to Nokia Plaza to “meet and greet” with some of your favorite WWE stars. On the schedule right now for August 14 are Rey Mysterio (12-1:30PM) and Randy Orton (5-6:30PM). Edge (12-1:30PM) will be the featured guest on August 15.

WWE Summer Slam: The August 15 (4:15PM) Summer Slam matches will be held at Staples Center. Highlights include the Championship Match between Sheamus and Randy Orton, and the Elimination Tag Team Match featuring John Cena, Bret Hit Man Hart, Edge, Chris Jericho, John Morrison, R-Truth and The Nexus.

The Tony Award-winning musical Rent will be presented by the LA Philharmonic this weekend, August 6 through 8, at the Hollywood Bowl. The star studded cast includes Vanessa Hudgens (of High School Musical fame) and Wayne Brady (famous just for being Wayne Brady). The director is none other than Dougie Houser, aka Neil Patrick Harris.

It has been said that Southern California locals have their own ways of doing things, and there’s definitely some truth to that. While we have thankfully dropped the “valley girl” style of speaking, we can still be stereotyped as overly competitive about our looks, our sports and our style. If you want to fit in to that mold, here’s a quick overview of where to start.

Customize your car. In Southern California, a car is not just your transportation. It is a rolling badge of style, a reflection of who you are and what you represent. Newbies to the custom auto scene might choose to install an aftermarket entertainment system and some window tint, but the more serious enthusiasts are interested in billet grills, custom wheels, chrome accessories, dash kits and the like. You can find auto accessory shops all over the Southland, but shop online first. The pricing is usually better and its easier to comparison shop.
Take up exercise. Exercise is a means to an end. It’s hot in Southern California and therefore you need to feel great in warm weather clothing. Also, we have miles and miles of beaches, so you will probably want to spend some time in a bathing suit. Thankfully, you have loads of exercise options: individual sports like jogging, hiking, bike riding, and mountain climbing are all accessible year-round. You can also join a gym (they’re everywhere) or sign up for a local tennis or racquetball league.
Be a Laker fan…as long as they continue to win. In LA, we love winners! That means being a Laker-lover and a Clipper-hater. I know there are Clipper fans out there, but those folks are a different breed. They cling to the desperate hope that their team will someday be meaningfully better than the Lakers, even though all evidence indicates that that could never happen.
Wear sunglasses. Accessories for your face are as important as accessories for your car. Plus, it’s sunny and your eyes need the protection!
Drink smoothies. Smoothies fit right into the SoCal lifestyle: they’re cool, healthy and convenient. Get one to go and drink it in your customized car on your way to a Laker game!

Earthquakes in Southern California

Looks like there were a few earthquakes that struck Southern California right about 9:30 this evening. One was at 9:26 a magnitude 5.9 in Ocotillo, CA then a magnitude 3.9 hit just three minutes later, then a magnitude 3.6 two minutes later centered in the same location Ocotillo, CA. One minute later there was a 3.2 in Ocotillo Wells, CA and one minute after another 3.2 in Chula Vista, CA.
