Clippers Trade Marcus Camby

Friday, February 19th, 2010 by admin

Well the Clippers finally did it, the made the trade I was talking about yesterday. I was a bit surprised that they traded Camby to the Blazers because usually teams with in the same division do not make trades, but as we all know the Clippers are not normal. .
.

So what did the Clippers receive for Marcus — Guard Steve Blake, Forward Travis Outlaw and about $3 million in cash. Steve Blake will be a good back up point guard to Baron and Travis Outlaw will be a fine 6th man for the team. Travis needs to stay away from the injury bug which kept him out of the line up for Portland this year..
.

The Clippers also announced today that swingman Ricky Davis has been waived by the team to make room for the two new players.
.
.

Is this a good or bad thing for the Clippers. In my estimation financially it is probably a wash because all players involved have expiring contracts and with the Clippers really not headed to the playoffs it just gives Donald Sterling a better chance of breaking even this year. The other thing it will do is give the Clippers an opportunity to see what DeAndre Jordan can do as well as Al Thornton. Both players figure to get more minutes with Camby gone especially Jordan who I think can have a productive career in the NBA with his size and athleticism, he just needs more minutes to get a feel for the NBA pace..
.

I guess we will have to see what happens in Portland tonight!

Kobe Best of the Decade

Monday, February 15th, 2010 by admin

With 54 percent of the votes Kobe Bryant was voted the best NBA player of the decade. Congratulations to Kobe on this honor it is well deserved. With all the turmoil for the Lakers in this decade Kobe continued to be the heart and soul of the team. It was quite a decade for the Lakers starting with a Championship and ending with a Championship. One still ponders how many more could have they won if Shaq was still around. I suppose that is a thought for another day.
.
.

The end results are as follows: Kobe Bryant 54% of the vote, LeBron James 17%, Shaq 13%, Tim Duncan 8%, Steve Nash 5%, and Kevin Garnett 3%.
.
.
.

I do believe Tim Duncan (as much as us folks in LA do not like the Spurs) you have to admit is one of the best players in the league and the Spurs would not be as good as they are without The Big Fundamental.

.
.

What happen to Shaq? Too much team moving for Shaq. You have to be on one or two teams in the decade to make a real impact. Yes Shaq was the reason the Lakers won in the beginning of the decade but after the transition to Miami, D-Wade was the reason the Heat won the Championship, Shaq was secondary. Then the transition to Phoenix where Shaq was not so effective in the fast paced Suns style, so no impact on that team. Now with Cleveland, Shaq is just a role player, but isn’t everyone to LeBron right now.

.
.

So it makes perfect sense for Kobe to win the award he scored the most points in a game of any player in the decade 81 and has improved his game with such a variation of looks for the defenders that he is close to impossible to guard..
.

Congrats Kobe and the Lakers!

What Are the Clippers Going to Do?

Monday, February 15th, 2010 by admin

Where are the Clippers headed for the last 30 games of the season? is the thought I ponder before writing this post. Will they trade away Marcus Camby to a contender, move Baron Davis and his contract. They did one rational move before the All-Star break by firing Mike Dunleavy. The reasoning was very nice, “The players where not listening to what he had to say.” They probably stopped listening because what he was saying was not making any sense and was not helping them win basketball games. All he usually had to say was what bad luck the Clippers were having with injuries and claiming about the officials or something. At some point in time you have to “Man Up” and deal with the cards you have been dealt. If he is a good coach he would have inspired the players he had and made the most of the situation. It is not much fun if you are filling in for Kaman and all you hear is we would be winning if Kaman was here. So hopefully Kim Hughes will be able to set a new tone and work with the players he has on the floor and not worry about what he does not have..
.

If the Clippers can get to the 45 win mark they might have a chance to make the playoffs but means they would have to go 24-6 in their remaining games, seems pretty unlikely but it could happen as long as they do not have to play the Warriors every game. Most likely they will not make the playoffs and will continue on to be an average team. Hopefully they will trade away Camby and get a couple of young players in return to compliment Kaman, Gordon, Blake Griffin, and Al Thornton. For the meantime we will all have to wait and see what Dunleavy and Sterling will do with this franchise.
